About

The Muromachi Period is the time in which the Ashikaga family occupied the position of shogun.  It gains its name from the district in Kyoto where the Ashikaga headquarters was located.

Ashikaga held seat from 1392-1573, marking the timeline for this period of Japanese history.

Architecture, literature, Noh drama, comedy, poetry, the tea ceremony, landscape gardening, and flower arranging particularly flourished during Muromachi times.

This site is about my discovery of the art of the Muromachi period and its curious coexistence and how it flourished in harmony with Zen.
